The No Normal Podcast
Once again, the core of our season will be our monthly hour-long podcast The No Normal! Co-produced by NME Artistic Director Ian Crutchley and local radio veteran, Oskar Zybart, each episode will introduce listeners to interviews and music from sound artists from Edmonton and abroad. The No Normal podcast will also include stories, guest interviewers, conversations with friends, local organizations, and much more! You can listen to The No Normal on Soundcloud or subscribe via your favourite podcast service.

This show is the second part of our creative mentorship project. Begun in 2023, this side of the project focuses on multidisciplinary work, and features an awesome double bill of new creations and performances: Spinning Stardust, by emerging artist Diana Taylor, and Cyzmic swAy by mentor erψn temp3st. These two artists will certainly live up to the idea of “multidisciplinary”, with all kinds of amazing elements: live electronic sound, harp, projections, live video, movement, fibre arts, and much, much more! The splendid Mile Zero Dance space is our home for this evening, a really great place to experience the abundance of live, audio, and video streams in the two pieces. Thank you to the Edmonton Arts Council Connections and Exchanges program for making this project possible!
Olivia Shortt

It’s always exciting when we can welcome a really cool artist to town for multiple events, and it’s doubly exciting that Olivia Shortt will be appearing for the first time in ᐊᒥᐢᑿᒌᐚᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ Amiskwaciy-wâskahikan (Edmonton). Self-described as a noisemaker, video artist, curator, and troublemaker, Shortt’s work is inspired by their love of camp, drag, and gender expression and its relation to Indigeneity. April 4, 7:30 PM- Olivia Shortt, Matthew Cardinal, and Mustafa Rafiq. April 5, 2 PM – artist talk. April 5, 7:30 PM – Olivia Shortt Makwa.
New Music Edmonton is honoured to be presenting these events in collaboration with the Ociciwan Contemporary Art Centre, whose brilliant advocacy for, and presentation of, work by Indigenous artists is an invaluable part of our region’s artistic milieu.
