This show is the second part of our creative mentorship project. Begun in 2023, this side of the project focuses on multidisciplinary work, and features an awesome double bill of new creations and performances: Spinning Stardust, by emerging artist Diana Taylor, and Cyzmic swAy by mentor erψn temp3st. These two artists will certainly live up to the idea of “multidisciplinary”, with all kinds of amazing elements: live electronic sound, harp, projections, live video, movement, fibre arts, and much, much more! The splendid Mile Zero Dance space is our home for this evening, a really great place to experience the abundance of live, audio, and video streams in the two pieces. Thank you to the Edmonton Arts Council Connections and Exchanges program for making this project possible!
Cyzmic swAy is a sound and body-based performance that explores texture and resonance with respect to the architectural extensions of body and sculpture. Through movement, sound, and voice Cyzmic swAy parses questions of posthuman materiality that propose a body enmeshed in the matter and reverberations of a vibrant world
Spinning Stardust: What if you could spin stardust into twinkling golden thread and knit a five pointed suit that would take you into the night sky, glimmering and shimmering? Spinning Stardust is a multidisciplinary work (harp, storytelling, fibre art) that chronicles the adventures of one forest gnome who, armed with a spindle and some yarn spun from forest matter, dips his long, delicate toes into the world of fast fashion. It invites one to ponder where their body ends and where their clothes begin, and how what we wear has the power to transform us. Come to Mile Zero and sit upon the floor, a story has slipped beneath the door….

erψn temp3st is an artist of settler descent, working through questions of embodiment and the aura of all things physical and virtual. They are interested in the body as a site of rupture, an ever unfolding excess of significance whose shape is delineated moment by moment through fields of intention and affect. Their work means to invert inner and outer, often incorporating video, live sound, somatic elaborations, and interactive media to gather brightness and charge through which to touch,…, barely, hopefully,…, the leaning and reaching parts (the tender offerings) of an audience.
