Front entrance of Mile Zero Dance
9931- 78 Avenue NW, Edmonton
During the festival, you will hear lots of sound in the Mile Zero space, but what about around it? Festival artist Alicia Proudfoot will lead participants on a 1 hour listening expedition through the soundscapes of Mile Zero’s neighbourhood. You’ll be amazed by what you can hear when you listen — if you think our city just sounds like cars and magpies, think again, and listen closer! This event requires no experience, just an interest in listening, and the mobility needed to spend an hour out and about! A bottle of water, and a hat, are highly recommended! Free event, but space is limited and registration is recommended!

Alicia Proudfoot is an interdisciplinary artist living in Edmonton, with a penchant to incorporate industrial process and technology into her projects. She delights in modifying her formal training in sculpture, harp, and performance to engage people. Experimentation is valuable to her creative research about humour’s role as explored through her somatic archive on illness. Alicia received a BFA from the University of Alberta in 2016 and graduated with an MFA from NSCAD University in 2019. Alicia has had some international opportunities through an internship at Franconia Sculpture Park, MN, USA; and a residency with the Digital Stone Project in Gramolazzo, IT where she made a marble using traditional carving and robotic milling. From January – May 2024 Alicia was invited as a visiting academic to speak and complete a sound-sculpture residency for the University of Alberta. She embraces iterative exploration, altering her projects slowly at different residencies, exhibitions and performances. Photo Credit: Brittany Jill Photography
