As respectful residents of this meeting place, amiskwaciy, The Society for New Music in Edmonton (NME) is proud to be this region’s premier organization for the promotion and presentation of contemporary music and sound-related arts. NME is committed to seeking out and bringing to its audiences a wide spectrum of musical and sonic art practices, primarily featuring chamber music, avant-jazz, noise, choral music, sound art and multidisciplinary projects. NME strives for equity and actively seeks out both demographic and stylistic diversity in our programming, staffing, and Board of Directors.
Working closely with the Artistic Director (AD) and General Manager (GM) the role will entail developing and executing a social media strategy. The AD will provide an expansive written description of the artists and the season from which the Social Media Coordinator can write social media posts. NME will provide artist-approved headshots, photos, audio or other sample media for potential posts.
The Social Media Coordinator is primarily responsible for:
-Writing and managing social media posts for the society (Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, Threads, LinkedIn) – communicating society events, community opportunities, and related events
– Designing accompanying visuals for the posts (asset design for the annual Now Hear This festival – poster, ads, social media assets for 3-4 concerts and 2-3 outreach events would be available as a separate contract, if desired)
– Configuring the designs for compatibility with Facebook events and social media posts
-Designing and writing a monthly newsletter (Mailchimp) and occasional extra updates
-sharing/spreading posts by partner organizations; opportunities for our members; non-concert NME activities (fundraising initiatives, calls for proposals, employment opportunities)
-keeping social media channels active during slow periods (meet the people behind NME; showcasing previous events; etc)
-collaborating with the General Manager to design ticketing pages (Zeffy) for events
We are accepting applications through an online form until September 28.
Equity Statement
In calling for and reviewing proposals, New Music Edmonton strives for equity and actively seeks out both demographic and stylistic diversity. We recognize that treating all people equally does not guarantee fairness, but can, instead, reinforce extant biases. As such, in contributing to a reliably equitable environment in our own presentations, the arts generally, and society as a whole, we endorse and have adopted policies whose outcomes promote fair distribution of opportunities. We especially welcome and proactively select proposals reflecting our equity goals, and strongly encourage proposals from historically excluded demographics.
While every application will be reviewed and considered carefully, New Music Edmonton reserves the right to select candidates of its choice. Further, the organization reserves the right to offer this opportunity to candidates outside of this call.
