Obsolescence
Obsolescence is a phantasmagoria of 80 years of various obsolete, broken, or nominally incompatible technologies bound together into a single functional organism. The piece is centred around four CRT monitors all feeding off outputs of test equipment, synthesizers, and signals from a central MAX patch. The forest of wires and equipment is focused around a prepared saxophone, the instrument itself battered by many years of service, wires, tubing, and string coming from every part of it and connecting back to both the MAX patch and into the equipment, all breathing as one.
Cole Dorchester: composition, live electronics, Makenna Graham: composition, prepared saxophone Dylan Lindsay: composition, live electronics, MAX programing.
The Artists

Creamy Rainbow is the current iteration of Anna Wildish and Andrew Thorne’s collaborative sound projects. Both born in Mi’kmaki, or Moncton, New Brunswick, Thorne and Wildish first began playing together since 2018, in the Kjipuktuk (Halifax) based group, Tangent. Since moving to Treaty Six territory, Edmonton in 2021, both have been interested in songwriting and sound-making through the blending of conventional and unconventional instruments. Guitars and bass are frequently accompanied by the distortion of radios, telephone calls, and Tasmanian devils. Recently, the group recruited friend and musician Aidan Oatway on drums. Further pushing the band into the territory of alternative music, with the ethos of Pauline Oiveros and Salomé Voegelin.
The band is interested in music and sound as a living art, never separating one from the other. Often incorporating environmental, cityscape or domestic sounds while they play. Acting as the noisy conduits of it all. Their mercurial attitude has led them to take on many different monikers, such as Anna & Andy, Doppler, or Oil City Demolition, never resting on our laurels for too long. Photo Credit: Kev Liang

Soft Ions takes the audience through cinematic soundscapes, providing the imaginary soundtrack to a dark thriller or sci-fi film, eerie communications evoking alien shadows. Live performances by the duo build on this atmosphere, often including experimental visuals and instruments. Their self-titled debut was released on Edmonton’s Pseudo Laboratories in 2017, followed by the apocalyptic “Nigh” in 2019. In 2025, Soft Ions return to show their softer side, exploring the sounds of their neighbourhood, the community that resists amidst what feels like a dystopian present.
